The Bob Smillie Archive is now in the National Library of Scotland!
"Smillie’s death is not a thing I can easily forgive. Here was this brave and gifted boy, who had thrown up his career at Glasgow University in order to come and fight against Fascism, and who, as I saw for myself had done his job at the front with faultless courage and willingness; and all they could find to do with him was to fling him into jail and let him die like a neglected animal." George Orwell. "Homage to Catalonia".
Thank you to Mariado Berrie for explaining yesterday that the Bob Smillie Archive is now in the National Library of Scotland! I think we should be thanking both Mariado and Kane Smillie together for this kind and generous gesture?

Mariado originally discovered the mass grave in Valencia Cemetery where Bob had been buried.

On May 14th 2019 she singlehandedly organised the unveiling of a plaque made by Frank Casey of Bob close by. Frank also attended the event with family.

Richard Blair and Quentin Kopp also attended the unveiling aswell as family of Bob from as far afield as Australia. A very moving event.
Thank you for all your incredible work and research in remembering Bob, Mariado! And I believe to Kane Smillie aswell!
